Today I have a very old Port Mourant from 1993, it was distilled in the original Uitvlugt Distillery.
Let's see what we have here.
In the nose I get fresh wood, all kind of herbs and anise, also some mint. The herbs reminds me of RA Guyana 1998 MEEA (almost the same herbs there but without anise).
It's bright and balanced. Then I get vanilla, wax, marzipan and grasy notes. It reminds me of the buttery Clarendon, it has also this anise dominance. It's nice, but not that complex. I expected more complexity after 26 years in the barrel.
The taste starts sweet and bright with wax, honey and melon, then I get wood and some anise. The rum spreads some bitterness (I think that are tannins from the wood). It's also spicy but I can say this is the smoothest continental PM I ever had.
In the middle I get more of this fresh wood with tannins, then again some anise, honey, vanilla and now some bitter dry orange zests.
The finish is long and a little bit spicy. I get a medical note now, then vanilla, some grasy notes, some tannins and wet fresh wood.
It's a very good PM overall. I don't prefer this style very much.
But this is a good one, I think it was not too long in the barrel. It's smooth, fresh and old at the same time with a lot of herbs. I would rate this rum with 89 points.

The rum Artesanal Uitvlugt Port Mourant was distilled in 1993 in Guyana in the Uitvlugt Distillery and was allowed to mature for 26 years. It was then bottled with 52.1% alcohol in cask strength without additives, sugar and filtration in 0.5l bottles.
I'm not an expert or a big lover of guyana rums. This one also surprised me again. In the nose, the rum shows a strong herbal note. Wood and mint are very concise. But also anise. All very lively but striking. You have to like that. The nose is reflected on the palate. Mint and anise pair with wood and some fruit. The rum is absolutely mild and a few bitter substances spread. The finish is spicy with wood and the aromas remain very long.
You have to like this high-quality rum. Absolutely exciting to try and explore the aromas without liking it so much. Here I am glad that I have a sample, because I would certainly not drink the rum often. But without question complex and high quality.

Ich bin kein Experte und auch kein großer Liebhaber der ganzen Guyana Rums. Auch dieser hat mich wieder überrascht. In der Nase zeigt der Rum eine starke Kräuter Note. Holz und Minze sind sehr prägnant. Aber such Anis.
Diesen hochwertigen Rum muss man mögen. Absolut spannend zu probieren und zu erforschen ohne das er mir besonders gut schmeckt. Hier bin ich froh das ich ein Sample habe, da ich den Rum sicher nicht häufig trinken würde. Aber ohne Frage komplex und hochwertig.
