Geur van eikenhout en chocolade. Smaak van chocolade en toffee. Mooie krachtige afdronk maar toch wel zacht voor 54% alcohol
This rum is quite an offering. The notes of cocoa are not missed in this lighter Spanish style rum. I will keep a bottle if this in my collection.
Light color, heavy chocolate aroma.
Taste is also full of chocolate, cocoa and pralines. Higher level of alcohol is helping and adding nice warm touch and longer finish. Best from the Companero line and perfect value for the price (35Eur in Czech Republic) +1point if you are chocolate lovers
Amber colour with a strong chocolate nose. Light sweetness, cocoa and a bit of orange zest on the palate. A bit spicey and surprisingly smooth for the higher abv. Long dark chocolate finish. $67 at LCBO
This strong cocoa aroma comes from the toasted cask?
I could imagine that it is artificial. But I don't know.
It could be a much better rum, it needs more balance between the aromas.
Cocoa is a very strong flavour. Combined with sweetness it kills all other aromas and creates a disbalance. Additionaly the 54% alcohol intensivies this disbalance.
Smell: Cocoa, cocoa, cocoa, cinemon, some spices (like pepper, unfortunately overlaid by cocoa)
Taste: Chocolate/cocoa, liquorice, cinemon, sweetness with bitterness (dark chocolate), spices (cardamom)
There is too much cocoa for me. I mean I like chocolate aroma in Zaya 12, but here this is too much. I think it's artificial. Therefore only 55 points.

I had many trips to Cuba and always enjoyed Havana Club 7 yo. Up until now I did not try anything else except Cuban rum. Once I've brought from there Santiago de Cuba 11yo and have found it so smooth and delicius compared to HC. Since then I've discovered world is full of different rums ). Had tried 12 of them so far. And I will rate them comparing to HC as the base rated 6.
Edit 1y later: 7
I have tried all(?) 3 of the rums from Companero and after the two prior to this failed in almost all categories, this one surprised me greatly. And in a good way.
Nose: Chocolate, orange peel and oak
Taste: Very heavy dose of chocolate with hints of orange, tobacco and raw cocoa
Overall: This is a chocolate-heavy rum, no doubt about it. It also has it limits in complexity, but with the 54 abv it delivers something, that the other two in the series doesn´t.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This rum gives a run for its money to the “Wild Tiger India Spiced” rum as the worst rum I have ever tasted! I was looking forward to sample the higher ABV but the overwhelming vanilla taste totally ruined it for me. Absolute garbage!
