I hate stunts. I generally despise additives. I definitely don't care for flavorants. So you could say I was not expecting good things from the label. Less so from the nose... Did I mention I'm not a huge fan of bananas? Ya the nose is just.. Banana. To its credit it smells entirely exactly like banana. Not extract or flavoring. Just slightly overripe banana. The kind that's like a day away from being banana bread material. And that's what I get from this rum. A surprisingly complex pour. I get oaty, woody notes on the tip, lovely caramel and molasses and of course the banana, which is not cloying or overdone. It's very present but I can still focus on the rum.
Which begs the question... Is this in fact rum? Or rum liqueur? That's a nice debate to have but it's labeled rum and I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. I'll add a bottle to my collection for cocktails and will occasionally sip it neat.
A nice rum overall although the banana flavour was more synthetic than other similar flavoured rums. Still worth a try
A very potent banana smell, which luckily isn't as strong when you actually taste it. It's rather sweet (which I like) but it could've used a bit more dept and spices. Overall a very nice rum to drink neat.
Tried this rum with diet coke, tasty rum but not sure coke was the best mixer. Banana taste came through the diet coke but not overpowering, tasted a little synthetic
This has a very strong banana smell, but luckily it has a more subtle taste. It's a nice, sweet dark rum.
Nose is slightly synthetic banana, tasted is more natural, banana and toffee. It's not exactly complex but it's a pleasant enough sipper
On the nose:
Yes indeed banana, slight ethanol taste, however the banana doesn't smell like modern banana but the original banana (Gros Michel) instead of the modern Cavendish, so it is much closer to the smell of those banana sweets.
On the tase:
Again very banana, very smooth with just a hint of spice remaining as aftertaste. But there is also a slight vanilla note, but it is very faint more like it was aged in a previous American bourbon barrel.
My personal opinion, I'd have it again, either neat or with coke.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Gave it a sniff first. Wasn't getting any banana. But when you drink it, it's a totally different story. A backbone of banana but enough complexity to be very enjoyable.
