A random dram I felt drawn to try as yhe only Mezan I've had was their regular Jamaican offering that just tasted like bananas to me.
Smell is light, perhaps I'm influenced by the 15yo Cuban I've just had, but this has something of that citrus and tobacco vibe on the nose, just very lightly so.
Taste is pretty much the same. Floral, citrus, leather and tobacco. Light. Tastes unsweetened, yet not too fiery for what I figure is pretty young.
If this isn't Cuban, it tastes Cuban adjacent to me. Spanish style, but ptetty flavourful for 40%. Not too much on the finish, I imagine it would be easy to polish the bottle off. Don't know what a bottle costs, but I could happily pass this around a fire with friends.
It tastes like vodka, or maybe like some cheapeast rums.
Not a rum for sipping, best to use it as a quality mixer
If you're seeking a rum that has a straightforward taste with no noticeable hints of fruit or spices, then this rum won't disappoint you. If you let it linger in your mouth for some time, you'll experience a well-balanced finish.

The untouched Rum
Kokeilemisen arvoinen
Otan toisen!
A Panamanian, ex-Bourbon & Muscatel cask, bottled at 40%. Stated age is 3 years.
Initially I didn't really like it. Now I can tolerate it.
EDIT - I generally love Mezan rums. I always thought that this was a bit of a strange one to have in their line up due to it being so different, young and raw. But today, I sort of got it, though I still think that they were spot on bottling at 40% rather than their usual 46%
I always drink rum straight up, and I appreciate that this might be better as a mixer. But neat... I had a bad day and wanted something with a little rawness, but still with a bit of sophistication about it. I realise that that is a little contradictory, but the young rum gives a rawness and the moscatel's sweetness a bit of sophistication. Really though, the rum is not that raw nor that sophisticated, but it has enough of both to meet my needs right now.
I'm not sure it could ever be considered to be a great rum - what 3yo is? It's not trying to be. I think I'm on my 3rd bottle of it, and it is just now that I have changed my mind on how I view this rum,

I don't think, that this rum is good for sipping. For mixing works well.
