The 8yo Montebello rum from the Carrere distillery is aged in ex-Bourbon American oak barrels before being reduced to 42% and bottled.
Carrere/Montebello 8yo is possible to find as several vintages 1997, 2001, 2003, 2005 and 2007. This is the only one of the 8yo that is bottled in the Winch bottle, all others is bottled in the normal stubby bottle.
The vintage is written on the back label.
Right now I have bottles of the 1997 and the 2001 vintage.
The nose is very smooth and pleasant. I recognize orange, chocolate, coffee and some spiciness.
In mouth, on the palate and during the medium long finish it’s very soft, creamy and round. I recognize sweet cane, spices, oak and caramel.
Overall a great Agricole as most of the rum from this brand which is one of my favorite brands. When comparing it to the 2001 vintage it’s significant softer, rounder and smoother.

For a 8y old it was harsher than I expected. In a tasting of the 3y, 6y and two different 8y old this one came out on the second place.
