Artesano 24 matured under tropical sun for 20 years before finishing another four years in a Ruby-Port Cak. Four year finish is a decent number. We can look forward to a strong port influence. I prefer such dominant finishes. They could be often found at Oliver & Oliver rums, unfortunately only in the sweetened version.
Smell: Significant port influence is noticeable. This manifests itself in red fruits and red rubber rings with a lot of wood. The smell goes strongly towards grapes. It's sweet, I notice burnt sugar. After 24 years, barrel aromas with lots of dried fruits can also be clearly noticed. After 4 years, of course, the port barrel dominates. Imagine all kind of red dry fruits.
For me a nice smell that reminds me of Cubaney or quorhum rums.
Taste: It starts with sweet fruits such as ripe apples, rose grapes and immediately becomes astringent. Red rubber rings and tobacco develop. The sharpness increases rapidly, some tannins and some leather aromas rise and add complexity. The mouth stays dry, it explodes with red port wine aromas. You can imagine any red dried fruits, cranberries, cherries, pomegranate, blackberries, grape juice. Barrel aromas push the rum further towards the finish.
The finish remains sharp, grapes, gum, barrel aromas can be noticed.
Wow, what a blast. The rum really tells a beautiful story.
Aftertaste: grapes, pomegranate, gum, roses
I did not expect that of Panama Rum. I have a weakness for such long wine finishes. This is also the best rum in this discipline so far. With its astringency, it clearly leaves the sweetened representatives behind. I would say that Panama Rum is ideally suited to presenting such finishes with a strong character, as it is rather subtle in its aromas.

Strawberry juice colored ruby red in the glass.
On the nose, the port is the dominator and it is allowed to be. Pickled red fruits, crushed purple berries, caramel quietly sizzles away in a copper pan, peppermint and chocolate in perfect fusion, cardamom incites to revolution, herbs and spices follow him! On the street are wooden barricades, behind them is a burning tire.
On the palate, Panama takes the lead again. Full-bodied caramel flirts with melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, candied fruit in a coat of herbs dances laughingly around the port flavors. Ripe grapes, pears and plums steeped in port and enhanced with refined spices. Wood, resin and tropical sunshine hold back discreetly.
The finish is simply terrific. All flavors leave their soul, caramel fruits, chocolate spices, port woods and at the end remains a big grin.
What a rum! Wonderfully balanced rum and barrel finish. I have named only a fraction of the flavors, discover for yourself!
For port lovers, experienced rum drinkers and all who enjoy something special.
