This Chamarel Special Reserve is an exceptional XO Extra Old Rum from the island of Mauritius. It was obtained from the sugar cane juice of the Rhummerie plantations and matured in French oak barrels for at least 6 years. This was followed by an 18-month finish in Sauternes (sweet wine) barrels. The French white wine from Bordeaux contributed to the unique personality of this rum.
8:Nose-typical Agricole with notes of tropical fruit, bit funky, spicy, some volcanique hints, before airing some notes of stinky clothes 😄.
8,5-palate: It is soft and yet does not lack strength and intensity. Fruity notes of apricots and a subtle nuttiness are accompanied by delicate honey and vanilla nuances. Extremely complex, warm spices with notes dried fruits, dates and hints of lemon and orange peel, peaches with a nutty note, which is a typical characteristic of noble Semillon.Well rounded and syrupy.
8,5:Finish-extraordinary smooth and long finish, palate notes linger on.
It has a nice price tag even in distillery shop-124€ but it is worthy.
Dozvuk: Štiplavá pepřovitost, travnatost a sirnatost. Na úplný závěr sušené ovoce. Delší.
Sladkost: 0/3
Ochutnán vzorek
Asi nejlepší z trojice ochutnaných Chamarelů Cognac, PX a Sauternes. Očekávání bylo veliké, ale celkově mě tato sirnatá a notně předražená série vůbec nezaujala.
Second tasting of Chamarel Rhum today : XO Chamarel Sauternes Cask finish
I bought a sample from Rhum Attitude and opened it after a long working day in the garden.
45 % - the beginning of a promising evening :-).
The nose : really fruity. Grapes and also berry I would say. Maybe sugar cane. And alcohol in the backround. Pleasant but not a WOW.
The palate : Ohhh, surprise, what a lot of pear in the first moment. In the second moment it's ... well let's say : pear. With closed eyes I would say it's a Willi (Williams Christ) aged in an oak barrel. And that straight from Mauritius, so it's a tropical Willi :-).
Alcohol is okay, not to sharp, but nevertheless I added some drops of water. Leave it breathe a few minutes. Tasty, really tasty. Much better than the Cognac Cask finish I tried some weeks before.
The end is medium long, absolute okay.
I would like to give him 8 maybe 9 points if I only consider my impression. But the price (here in Germany we have to spend more than 150 Euro for a bottle) induced me to give one point less. So 7 to 8 points for this rhum. I had comparable rums for less money
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Liked it. Lots of aromas, quite sweet. Tasted at Chamarel for 200rs the glass.. Definitely with it. But 100€ the bottle this is quite expensive for what you get. Like all Chamarel products.
