This 12yo Rhum from the Carrère/Montebello distillery is produced exclusively for the European market.
There’s very little information about it. A french online shop wrote that it’s 12yo while a czech shop wrote that it’s just 6yo and I’m inclined to trust the czech after tasting it.
Anyway it’s aged in used cognac barrels and maybe that makes it so different from all other Rhum from Montebello that I have tasted so far.
The aroma is powerful and you can feel the 43% you can also recognize taste of wood, lots of vanilla, dried fruits, some spices and of course some cognac.
These aromas then accompanies the mouth and aftertaste, but in the front of the mouth it is quite tasteless but in the back of the palate it is overflowing with flavors that continue during the rather long aftertaste where the vanilla dominates. If you let it breathe for 5-10 minutes, it gets a softer appearance.
A little disappointed right now, cause I’m a big fan of Montebello and I had expected more Montebello tastes but a little bit better than the less aged. Hopefully I will grow into it.
