I picked this up a while back for mixing - specifically for Daiquiris. Denizen is known for making blends specifically designed for cocktails. However, I want to know the underlying notes of the rums I am mixing with.
This rum is blended and bottled in the Netherlands from a blend of 80% column still rum from Trinidad aged 3 years (likely from TDL), and 20% pot still rum from Jamaica (Hampden?) aged 3 years.
This nose on this rum is exactly as was described by a fellow redditor when I asked a while back. On the nose I get predominantly Peaches and Vanilla ice cream. Under that I get Toasted Marshmallow with notes of Kiwi and Raspberry playing deep in the background.
Taking a sip, front and center I get Peaches and Vanilla with Toasted Marshmallow. As that begins to fade a lovely ripe Pear note appears. The combination is quite lovely and very well put together. It has a little burn in the throat but this otherwise has a great mouthfeel
However, that said, at least for the first several sips, there is literally no finish to this rum. Like, you take a mouthful and enjoy it but the second it leaves your mouth it’s just gone. Slowly - and I do mean slowly - after a while I start to get a lingering Toasted Marshmallow note, which is fine. Just fine. After half the Glencairn is gone I start to pick up something like the bitter taste on the very inside of a slightly unripe peach.
Overall this is good, perfectly fine. It doesn’t blow me away, but it is solid with a pretty interesting combination of notes. Now that I think about it, the lack of Finish makes a ton of sense on a rum designed for mixing. It is certainly better and a lot more interesting than what one would anticipate for a standard “white” rum, and in that respect it is definitely bar worthy.
Short Description: If a blended white rum was Peaches n’ Cream
40% ABV
Countries of Origin: 80% Trinidad; 20% Jamaica; bottled in the Netherlands
Nose: Peach, Vanilla Ice Cream, Toasted Marshmallow, Kiwi, hint of Raspberry
Palate: Peach, Vanilla, Toasted Marshmallow, Pear
Finish: faint Toasted Marshmallow, bitter Peach pit
Nice bit of sweetness, but lacks initial depth. A bit of tobacco and vanilla, a slight banana finish. The flavor develops more as it sits on the tongue. Overall it’s a little below average as a mixer. Didn’t really enjoy sipping. It does have a nice aroma though.
Not the best rum on the shelf but it’ll do. The girlfriend likes it!
After not having much luck with their 8 Year dark a few years ago, I stayed away from Denizen until I had a WTF moment today. Comparing it to my other 29 white rums that I have rated and ranked, this one comes in at number 11. There are better white rums and there are a lot more white rums that are worse. The Jamaican hogo funk is kept to a bare minimum.
Great in a daiquiri. I also enjoy it on an ice cube. Mild vanilla.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Good aroma with notes of mild Jamaican funk. Nice warm flavor with notes of orange peel and mild pepper. Overall a great rum.
