Basically a white rum. No flavor, not great. Leave it on the shelf
Nose has a solvent aroma like furniture polish. The taste is not much better.
I think this is sample number 4 of a weak set of samples this quarter. This didn't taste like rum. Nor did it taste good. Tasted like some sort of chemical or maybe cheap bourbon.
Unknown #4 is all the Rum Rating bottle said. I’m guessing it’s some entry level in aged rum like the rest of the stuff in my kit. I’ve been very disappointed in the tasting kit club. So far four lousy rums two to go. Taste like young unaged agricole.
Not a great rum when compared to others from the island. Not particularly great either when drunk with a mixer. Low grade diesel comes to mind
Picked this up in Port Louis duty free as I had some money to get rid of. €20 very well spent.
It has a light caramel colour, no distinct nose, but as it’s only 18 months in the barrel, it’s surprisingly good.
Slight vanilla, wood and really does remind me of Plantation 5yo Barbados, but much drier.
There’s no hint of sweetness at all, and over ice it’s pretty good.
Mild burn that leaves a lingering taste, for the price, it’s excellent.
Enjoy, Graham.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

On the nose Chamarel Gold smells like a cocktail of rum, whiskey, brandy and a crushed up cigar. Drank neat it tastes like a cigar too! And by that I mean it’s got a very smoky, tobacco like taste to it. Think of Jack Daniel’s but with a more jarring alcohol burn and you’ll have a good idea of what I am talking about. Thankfully this rum does improve, albeit slightly, when mixed with Coca-Cola. Unfortunately it still retains that woody, oaky, taste, which personally I can’t stand, but at least it becomes a tad sweeter, with an alcohol burn much less aggressive on your throat. Having said that, even with the fizzy dark pop coming to Chamarel’s rescue, it still feels like you are drinking a JD & Coke, with a hint of rum as an afterthought.
