This rum has a very subtle start, with a little funk in the middle. There is a lot of burn in the finish, too much for me to be a comfortable sipper. But I think this works well as that extra rum bite in a cocktail.
The caramel and toffee notes come in the middle and end but the beginning notes are almost missing, overpowered by a slightly medicinal alcohol taste. It has some grassy notes and some hogo as well without either overpowering the other. This would work well with other rums in a mixed drink but it is not a sipper.
Jamaican funk is not my favorite any way. This rum is a little harsh with very little finish. It lacks complexity of good Jamaican rum. Even if these are not my favorite I appreciate their balance and complexity. This one is missing both. Another subpar mixer in my liquor cabinet.
This stuff tastes like Everclear with some kind of rum mixed in. But mostly it tastes like Everclear. I will spare my liver. One of the worst Rums I have ever tried. $40 down the drain.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Lots of rich demerara flavors cut with some grassy agricole. Taste leads with toasted cinnamon, and rich gingerbread before yielding to some funkier attributes. Doesn’t have the same kind of hogo I’d expect from, say, Coruba or Hamilton Black, but I can see this being a great substitute for many mixed drinks; coupled with the orgeat, it’s clear this was blended with the mai tai in mind, but I’m eager to sub it in to my jet pilot, grog, et al. Debated between this and the Merchant’s Reserve 8, and will definitely be trying the latter also in the near future
