En dejlig blød rum. dejlig sipper, træder ingen over tærene.
I tried it so many times. For me it is better than Gran Reserva 15-year.
My reviews are aimed at those who sip rum neat, or on the rocks. Any rum can be diluted to taste better as a mixer.
This rum setup lacked character and depth. Every sip I was hoping for a better burst of tasting notes than I received. A faint woody and creamy nuance was all I could get and it was short lived and quickly overpowered by the power of the alcohol and itβs bite. Drinkable, but certainly wonβt be buying a bottle ever again. There just isnβt enough there. I typically prefer rum on the rocks with my cigars. Anyone who does the same should know that a Connecticut cigar shouldnβt overpower the body of your rum. I would gladly recommend don papa Anniversario, Diplomatico, or even Zacapa over this and all three are a lower price.
Colour: light golden colour, pleasing to the eye
Body: as you swirl the rum, there is a lovely little bit of viscosity and the golden liquid develops some legs in the glass
Nose: sweet, caramel and toffee is the initial aroma, another whiff and the alcohol comes through and later on something faintly medicinal (not herby, but more chemical-ish)
Taste: itβs easy to hold and roll around your mouth, sweetness is definitely there, and a little bit of a metallic taste, not much of an aftertaste and there is an ever so slight burn
I had the Matusalem 23 without ice first and honestly, I liked sipping it neat. I donβt mix my rum, so then I tried it on the rocks and again the sweetness comes through though a bit muted. The metallic taste is still there, cannot figure out what it is, I guess I will learn to discern the more I drink.
Will I buy it againβ¦I think I will, its a good sipper, works both with or without ice. My personal preference though is on the rocks. You can find it for S$75-85 in Singapore.
This was one of my first rums so I wasn't sure what to expect, so I waited until I had tried about 20 different rums before rating any of them. That being said, I'd categorize this one as being somewhat similar to Zacapa 23 and Plantation 20th anniversary XO. They're all fairly sweet, and not too exciting, but all solid rum values in my opinion. I liked this one the best of the three, and I think its a little less sweet than the other two. I can't give it an 8, but I think a 7 is a bit low, I'd give it a 7.5 if the system allowed fractional ratings.
Heeft een mooie smaak echt een rum om van te genieten. Zeker aan te bevelen.
I received a bottle of this solera 23 as a gift, and Iβm really enjoying it. Great color and flavor.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I think it feels less aged than it actually is. Nevertheless, it's a very solid classical Dominican rum but to be honest - for it's price you can find more sophisticated rums for sure.
