Plain, no real smell, no real taste.
Alcohol, but not very hard. Dissolved some with coke and then straight.
Try this after an unaged Martiniquan agricole and you will be convinced this is a 3-star rum, not 5.9 or 6
I must say this is a perfect rum for rum Martinis, mojitos or a rum and lemon/soda. I do enjoy a crisp taste in my cocktails and not to sweet. Not essentially a good rum for sipping but excellent for mixing do to the dry and unsweet taste. a believe its a must have in your bar for cocktail making.
Mixes well in cocktails and that´s about it. But there are way better white rums to mix drinks with though...
There's nothing particularly bad about this Brugal Especial, but nothing particularly good. It's crisp but feels like any edges were worn off. It makes a decent daiquri, but I'd prefer to still taste a little bit of rum and oomph. Definitely a rum made to entice people from the vodka and dry gin crowd. Does what it says on the label.
A very dry rum indeed. Tried it in a recipe I found on the internet for a Holiday Daiquiri. It got the job done.

Overall the rum is very sweet smelling and slightly floral. Their is a little of the Spanish/Hispanic style “tobacco” like notes.
"The rum is pretty pleasant nice and sweet with very little burn and it is quite smooth by mixing rum standards. The finish is fairly short but it is still quite enjoyable."

But you have to rate a rum on its own. Not compared to something like a heavy sugared molasses heavy sipper. As a nice young white rum I think this is lovely. Nice sugar and molasses, some nice grass and fresh cut lawn. This is my new fave for cocktails. Try it in a Mary pickford. Does lovely.
