12 year old rums under $50
12 year old rums under $50
I find my normal sweet spot for sipping rums around 12 years old with a few exceptions. Finding it harder and more expensive to buy Foursquare ESC, I have developed taste for Dooley 12 year, I think it's 45% or just shy. Typically $30 or less bottle I thinks it's my #1 at least for a while. Other favorite 12 year old.
2. Eldorado 12
3. Ron Abuelo 12 double oak.
4. Ron Abuelo 12
5. Diplomatic Family Reserve (not sure age but great rum)
I likely forgot a few but getting conversation started.
You can check your local Costco for their 15 year Panama Rum (https://rumratings.com/rum/16658-kirkland-barrel-aged-panama-15-year): https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco-spirits/products/34398266
Edit: 15 year Panama seems to be discontinued and replaced with a 12 year Panama. IMHO, the new version is superior.
I picked this one up in Tenerife for I think less than $50, it's great https://rumratings.com/rum/5599-arehucas-anejo-reserva-especial-18-year?
Yolo Rum 10-Year is from a reputable company that confirms its minimum age and is only $30 (at my local stores). I think that's a good option, because lots of other cheaper "long-aged" rums are going to be solera/average/"slow-aged" etc. As for the flavor, it's very floral and perfume-y, which takes over a cocktail easily but makes for a pleasant Panamian sipping rum.
Appleton 12 is $46 near me and also a classic.
