Pick Two and Why

I am headed to Anguilla and am told this list will be my bottles to select before my destination.  Please select the two that you would pick and why.

I am often in the sweet-tooth camp, and do not prefer rums meant for bourbon drinkers, or rums that taste like bourbon.  I'll be celebrating and don't mind the splurge this time.  My favorite these days is ZacapaXO, but I don't want to miss something special.

Appleton 21 Year Old- $110.00

Carupano Zafra- $190.00

Carupano XO- $225.00

Zacapa XO- $100.00

Zacapa Royal- $295.00

Diplomatico Single Vintage- $110.00

Diplomatico Ambassador- $235.00

Chairmans Reserve 13 Year Old- $150.00

Admiral Rodney Royal Oak- $85.00

Admiral Rodney Officer Release 2- $130.00

Centenario Rum 25 Year Old- $70.00

Centenario Rum 30 Year Old- $140.00

I also hate rums that taste like bourbon, so rule out anything by Foursquare ECS.

Since you like sweet rums like Zacapa XO at 26 gpl of added sugar, I will suggest:

1) Zacapa Royal

2) Centenario 30 Year (or 25 Year).

I have only tried the Centenario 20 Year, which was way too sweet for my tastes. I have Zacapa XO ranked 60 out of 465 in all that I have reviewed, so IF you can find Zacapa Royal, grab it!!! Both of these suggestions should be sweet.

As for Chairman's Reserve, Admiral Rodney, Diplomatico Single Vintage, and Appleton, all are bone dry.

As for Carupano, all that I have tried just made me quite sick.

The most expensive rum that I ever bought was the Diplomatico Ambassador. One is paying for that very fancy bottle, which is a keeper when empty. However, the rum had way too much sherry aging for my tastes and I rated it as a 6 out of 10. That is pretty pathetic for spending $231 plus tax on it two years ago.

Keep in mind when buying rums, high prices do not necessarily mean high quality. The taste buds of the blender are probably very different than each of us.

If you buy them in the US, you may have to pay duties when you arrive in Anguilla.

Appleton 21 is naturally sweet, without added sugar (if i am not mistaken) or other additives. It tastes wonderfully, like a holiday treat or something! If you can find it with an interesting price-tag, by all means, just grab it! It costs ~130-140 euros in most wine shop, as imported goods. I can guarantee you a great time, with this one. Although, please note that i tried some, before the Appleton Estate Rebranding...

Diplomatic single Vintage is Awesome. Stay away from Ambassador way to heavy in port barrels.Appleton 21 is on my birthday shelf very good especially if you like a small dose of Jamaican Hogo..

For the sweet mouth with consideration of the price: 1. ZacapaXO 2. Diplomatico Single Vintage 3. Centenario Rum 25 Year Old
