Rum recommendations
Hi there,
I'm fairly new to the rum world and I'm looking for some suggestions. I've tried a few rums already, so I hope you can help me based on my taste.
My favorite rum I've tried so far is the Diplomatico reserva exclusiva, followed by the Zapata 23. So I guess I like the more sweet rums. I also liked the Plantation XO, but I only tasted one small glass a few months ago, so I can't really rate this one. Based on the good reviews I bought the El Dorado 12, but didn't like it at all. I also didn't quite like the Dictador 20. The Bumbu/Don Papa stuff is too artificial for me, although I don't hate it.
Can you guys recommend me some nice sweet rums like Diplomatico? Max price around 60 dollars/euro's.
Cheers!
Forgot to mention: liked Flor de Cana 18, but not blown away. Bacardi 8 años; not so much.
Try the Solera Rum from the Dominican Republic by Oliver & Oliver e.g. Opthimus, Punta Cana, Quorhum, e.t.c. Maybe also the Centenario from Puerto Rico or the Millonario from Peru. A.H. Riise will be too sweet for you.
Thanks Rene! I will definitely check those out.
Cheers!
I completely agree with Rene. Furthermore I suggest Malteco 15 and La Hechicera Extra Anejo. Regarding Dictador, I prefer the 12-Year old.
Maybe you can try:
Quorhum 30 year aniversario
Millonario XO
Zacapa XO
Opthimus oporto finish 25 years
Opthimus malt finish 25 years
Zafra Master Reserve
Diplomatico 2007 single vintage
Puntacana XOX
Try Kirk & Sweeney Grand reserve superior (23) and rum will own your heart forever.
Here are a few more sweet rum suggestions Diplomatico makes Selection De Familia that is less sweet than the Reserva & 43% I think it's awesome for the next level, also from Venezuela Rum pampero Aniversario in a little leather bag, any of the Costa Rican Ron Centenario rums best ones are 12 year and above, I also think most of neighboring Panama rums are a bit sweet Ron Abuelo, I recommend 7 & above. I find most Dominican rums sweet, and concur with others Ron Millonario if it's available in your area, or Don Pancho Origines 8 (I'm trying to keep you under $50 range). I just had Medellin from Columbia last week 12 year was pretty good and a little on the sweet side.
I'm sure I can come up with many more, oh you have to try Dos Maderos 5 + 5 from Caribbean then Spain you will love it. This should keep you busy for a while.
