Smooth rums recommendations
Hi guys,
I am looking for some new bottles to buy and I decided to ask for a little help. I bought a lot of rums blindly and mostly got disappointed. I think I am not able to really appreciate the expensive ones just yet. They often seem pretty similar and too sharp for me and mostly I just forgot about them very quickly. I bought Ron Zacapa Centenario XO and it seemed pretty average to me. I like don papa but then I tried the 7YO and I didn't enjoy that one as much. Pyrat was very nice too and I got pretty nicely surprised with demon's share. I think I enjoy the most a little sweeter and fruity rums. But again then I tried for example arcane arrange ananas and the banana one and that was just a horrible experience. So maybe you get give me some recommendations what should I try because it is pretty hard for me to navigate in all that. Thanks in advance.
it seems you like sweetened rums, please members that have a sweeth tooth, give some advice to this guy, some premiumized sweet ron, rum, rhum needed ;-)
I like Diplomatico Gran Reserva as a 1-2 after dinner drink. I'm finding more & more restaurants/bars have it in (especially) FL & MI. It also comes in airport bottle size - lol.
I would definitely order it by mail if it wasn't at a Total Wine < 1 mile away.
I get Bumbu for my mom & family. I can't drink it, but it is good over ice cream with dessert. Just bought the new pint. Everyone thinks it is cute :-)
If you don't like bananas, don't bother. Too sweet for me to drink.
in my bar we also offer millionario XO and centenario 25, i know they are sweet and appreciated (by sweet rum lovers)
I found Plantation 20th anniversary to be my favorite sweet rum
The best ones in this category is in my opinion the Ron Zafra 30 or if you think it's too expensive the Ron Zafra 21.
If you want something with a higher ABV I recommend Ron Malecon Rare Proof.
Ravis you have tried sweet rums and have been disappointed. If you try a few dry rums you might figure out what type of rum you like. Without braking the bank I would suggest:
- Mount Gay XO Triple Casks rum
- Appleton 12 yr rum
- The Real McCoy 5 yr rum
Good luck. The rum journey is fun as you explore and discover what pleases your palate.
happy hunting!
I like to go back & forth with my rum. A sweet one then a dry one. They actually complement each other. Rum is so diverse I don't think I will ever have one single favorite. My mission is to try them all. Hey you never know!
What is your price range?
That being said, Plantion XO was mentioned and it generally between $50 and $60 here in the US and is also consistently rated as one of the best rums under $100 on this site. It is my go to rum for the balance of reasonable pricing and quality.
